Rangers offered chance to sign ex-Manchester United ace free of charge
Rangers have been offered the chance to sign free agent Timothy Fosu-Mensah but have voiced concerns over his fitness, according to Wales Live.
The online outlet reported on 21 January that the Gers have the 27-year-old’s readiness after spending recent weeks training with Ajax.
The former Manchester United youngster has also attracted interest from various EFL Championship sides like Middlesbrough, Swansea City, QPR and Stoke City since leaving reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
It remains to be seen what will happen next with the Light Blues with a contract in Amsterdam still possible while a move to England’s second tier could appeal to the Dutchman.
Rangers concerned over Timothy Fosu-Mensah free transfer
With the financial restraints that Patrick Stewart is having to deal with at Ibrox, the use of free and loan transfers is going to be important.
This has already been utilised by the addition of Rafael Fernandes earlier in January and could be once again if the versatile defender comes in.
Fosu-Mensah would certainly represent a signing with plenty of experience despite having injury concerns throughout his career.
The Dutchman has spent time at Old Trafford as well as having spells with Crystal Palace, Fulham and most recently Bayer Leverkusen.
In a three-year spell in the Bundesliga, the ex-Netherlands international made just 30 appearances, lending itself to the fitness concerns the Light Blues have already voiced.
The signing of an experienced player with plenty of versatility could prove to be useful as the season goes on under Philippe Clement.
It is yet to be seen whether the Gers will make an offer but their position in Europe may be a deciding factor ahead of the various Championship sides.
