Rangers know what they must do for Lennon Miller transfer as bid rejected

Rangers must take advantage of Motherwell if they want to snatch Lennon Miller in the winter transfer window.

Philippe Clement’s side have been credited with a serious interest in the 18-year-old, who has regularly featured in Stuart Kettlewell’s midfield and attracted plenty of suitors in the process.

As per Sky Sports (21 January, 09:45), one of those is Serie A side Udinese, who have attempted to prise Miller to Italy with a £2.5million bid which has been rejected.

The Light Blues now know where the bar is currently set – and if they can arrange a superior deal, they may be able to acquire their man in the winter window.

Rangers remain interested in Lennon Miller

It was indicated that Udinese’s opening bid for Miller has not met Motherwell’s valuation and was quickly turned down, though in any case the midfield man is currently sidelined through injury.

Rangers now know that anything below £2.5million will not turn the heads of their Scottish Premiership rivals, who remain in a positive position despite Miller’s contract only having 18 months left to run.

Even if the Scotland Under-21 ace was to run down his contract at Fir Park, Motherwell would be able to command a compensation fee due to his young age and the fact he graduated through their academy.

Aberdeen were the beneficiary of the same system earlier this season at Rangers’ expense when Connor Barron moved on a free transfer to Ibrox, which ended up costing around £600,000 after a tribunal.

Ibrox will appeal to Miller but competition from Serie A is strong and Nils Koppen will be aware of the potential financial superiority of other clubs circling for the North Lanarkshire-born talent.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson says the contract situation at Ibrox concerning Ianis Hagi is a “mess”.
