Nikola Katic misses training as Rangers transfer shock emerges
Nikola Katic’s manager at FC Zurich has hit out at the delay it’s taken for the Rangers target to seal a move away from the Swiss giants, according to Reprezentacija.
The Bosnian outlet reported on 20 January that after Katic, who spent three years at Ibrox between 2018 and 2022, was “promised” a move in this winter, Zurich manager Ricardo Moniz is growing frustrated.
Katic is intent on leaving Zurich before 3 February and has been linked with a return to Govan [Keith Jackson, 8 January], but the 28-year-old’s “picky” deliberation over the transfer is delaying the inevitable for his manager.
In quotes reported by Reprezentacija, Moniz said: “He’s very picky. He has one drawback, time is running out, and he doesn’t train.”
Nikola Katic could have unfinished business at Rangers
With Katic clearly on the verge of leaving FC Zurich in increasingly acrimonious circumstances, and the Gers on the hunt for central defenders this transfer window, the stars are aligning for a return to Ibrox.
Rafael Fernandes may have already been brought through the doors on loan from Lille, but he may only act as a like-for-like replacement for Feyenoord loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo, with further depth needed.

John Souttar – arguably the Light Blues’ star man before pulling a hamstring against Tottenham in Europe – remains on the sidelines for now, and Katic could fit the bill as his temporary replacement.
The Bosnian international struggled with injury himself during his time at Ibrox, missing over a year of football with an ACL tear which unfortunately coincided with the Bears’ unbeaten title-winning season in 2020-21.
Katic being back in the building would be a big boost for Gers fans who feel he has unfinished business in Glasgow, and adding him to the squad would certainly shore up Philippe Clement’s defensive options.
In other Rangers news, one of the clubs keen on an in-demand star want to take him from Ibrox without paying a transfer fee.
