Ianis Hagi caught in ‘Incredible’ Rangers contract saga at Ibrox

Rangers have made a mess with the contract situation of Ianis Hagi, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist has criticised the Gers for their handling of the Romanian playmaker’s deal at Ibrox, which expires at the end of the season.

It’s an “incredible” thing for Jackson to see, although the 26-year-old is said to be open to new terms with an extension option in the contract.

Speaking on Hotline Live (20 January), he said: “Rangers aren’t a really well-run club.

“Nowhere close to being a well-run club. The contractual situation, the mess they’ve made of the whole Hagi thing, was incredible from day one.”

Rangers need to agree new Ianis Hagi contract

Hagi has returned to his best at the Glaswegian outfit since coming back into Philippe Clement’s plans.

The Romania international was frozen out of the squad at the start of the season and wasn’t afforded any minutes with the first team.

After a poor start to the campaign, the Belgian manager had to make a few changes to his plans, one of which was reintegrating the 26-year-old into the starting lineup.

Hagi has started for Rangers in the last five Scottish Premiership fixtures, scoring one goal and providing an assist.

Along with Vaclav Cerny, the former Genk midfielder has been one of the best players at the Gers over the last few months.

There is renewed hope among the Ibrox faithful of ending the season on a high note, with the Scottish Cup up for grabs after the 5-0 win over Fraserburgh on Sunday (19 January).

Hagi has become a lynchpin to the Light Blues’ success, and it would make sense for them to agree fresh terms with him before the summer.

Losing a player like the Romanian ace for free would be a big blow for the Bears.
