Rangers ‘to pull off upset’ v Manchester United in Europa League – Jackson

Rangers getting a point against Manchester United in the Europa League would be “terrific”, Keith Jackson has said.

The Daily Record journalist believes the Gers could get a draw at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday (23 January).

Philippe Clement’s team are coming off a 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup on Sunday (19 January), with the Red Devils low on form.

Jackson wrote in the Daily Record (20 January): “Who knows? Rangers have made a habit of punching above their weight on Thursday nights. And Man United have been hit and miss under new boss Rubin Amorim.

“If Philippe Clement can get back up the road with a point, then it would represent a terrific result for the Ibrox men.”

Rangers have every chance against Manchester United

Manchester United have had an underwhelming season, with Ruben Amorim replacing Erik ten Hag in the dugout.

The Portuguese manager’s arrival has not resulted in the turn of fortunes that the Old Trafford faithful had hoped for.

Clement’s team have the perfect opportunity to put another dagger in the Red Devils after their 3-1 loss to Brighton in the Premier League on 19 January.

Rangers had the chance to rest some of their best players against Fraserburgh, with Cyriel Dessers getting the opportunity to get back on the scoresheet.

While the Nigerian was impressive, Hamza Igamane will be expected to lead the line after his emergence in the current campaign.

Ianis Hagi and Danilo will be unavailable, though, and it remains to be seen how Clement will set up to upset the Premier League giants potentially.

The Glaswegian outfit are in a good position in the Europa League table, and qualification to the knockout stages is in their hands.

A point at Old Trafford will go a long way in the Gers’ aspirations.
