Philippe Clement exit: Ferguson reacts to ‘surprise’ Rangers news
Rangers manager Philippe Clement being touted as a contender for the Belgium job is a “surprise”, according to Derek Ferguson.
Manager-turned-pundit Johan Boskamp said earlier this week, as per the Glasgow Times [13 January], that Clement could still be in contention to succeed Domenico Tedesco.
Ibrox News understands that Clement has not yet been approached by the Belgian FA, but the Gers boss even being mooted as a contender is something Ferguson finds strange.
“I find that a surprise, but then again international football is totally different to club football,” Gers-mad pundit Ferguson told Ibrox News.
“Clement has had the finger pointed at him in terms of his style of football, especially earlier in the season – it was pretty rigid and disciplined.
“His style of football is a bit better now with players playing with more freedom. So if he had the chance to take over as Belgium manager, they’ve got players with terrific ability. So would that maybe be what they’re looking at?”
Who will be next Belgium manager?
Tedesco was only officially sacked this week after months of speculation regarding his future.
Clement was said to be top of a five-man shortlist to replace Tedesco in November [The Scottish Sun], but it is unclear where he ranks among the contenders right now.
Given how poor Rangers have been domestically this season, it would be a massive surprise to see him appointed by the Red Devils.

Thierry Henry is considered the favourite to take on the position, but until he or someone else does so, the speculation regarding Clement will continue.
Given there has been strong talk of him being sacked by the Light Blues, you’d imagine many high up at Ibrox would be more than happy to recieve some sort of compensation from Belgium.
In other Rangers news, talks are said to be underway regarding a player exit at Ibrox.
