Cyriel Dessers ‘laughing’ as new Rangers exit claim made

Derek Ferguson can fully understand why Cyriel Dessers continues to attract interest from clubs around Europe despite his up-and-down Rangers form.

Dessers scored a hat-trick against Highland Football League outfit Fraserburgh in Sunday’s (19 January) 5-0 Scottish Cup win, although even then he was guilty of a howler.

The Nigeria international also netted in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen last Wednesday (15 January) after coming on as a late substitute, yet questions persist over his future.

And in the view of Ferguson, it is occasions such as these past two games in which Dessers showcases his ability, rather than when the spotlight is shining on him in the bigger games.

When he came on against Aberdeen, sure he scored, but he was laughing, joking – the pressure is off,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News.

That’s when Cyriel Dessers plays well; when nothing is expected. Other clubs around Europe will look at his record and think it’s pretty decent, but he’s not a fans’ favourite.

I tell you what, Cagliari in Italy – what a move that’d be for him.”

Cyriel Dessers linked with Rangers exit

Cagliari are one of a number of teams to have been credited with an interest in Dessers, who has seven goals and two assists in 29 Scottish Premiership appearances this season.

The hat-trick against Fraserburgh helped pad out his tally for the campaign in all competitions, and four goals in two outings is certainly not a bad return – very good, in fact.

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers

However, the problem then comes when Rangers face Manchester United away in the Europa League this week, followed by a tough trip to Dundee United.

All too often Dessers has failed to make an impact in those bigger matches. Only time will tell if he does indeed depart this window, but if not then it is on the striker to maintain this form and truly prove himself.
