Cyriel Dessers exit: Rangers ‘in trouble’ with transfer on cards
Rangers would have a “problem” if Cyriel Dessers is sold in the winter transfer window, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist expects the Gers to cash in on the 30-year-old if a decent offer is made amid interest from Italy [La Gazzetta Dello Sport, 18 January, pg 23].
But the Light Blues would lack depth in attack if the Nigerian striker departs before the 3 February deadline.
Speaking on Hotline Live (19 January), Jackson said: “It’s a problem for Rangers. I get it, take the money and run. A lot of people would be of that opinion.
“But if you don’t have anybody to come in, what happens if Igamane breaks down? What happens if he picks up an injury? You don’t really have a central striker. You’ve got Danilo, I guess, but he’s injured again.
“I would take the money for Dessers if it’s available, if it’s a decent amount. But I don’t know if you can do that in January.”
Rangers need to reinforce after Cyriel Dessers transfer
While Dessers has been a frustrating figure among the Ibrox faithful, there’s no doubt that the centre-forward could be influential for the Light Blues in the coming months.
The Nigeria international highlighted his importance in the squad with a hat-trick on Sunday (19 January) as the Bears beat Fraserburgh 5-0 in the Scottish Cup.
While the 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order, Philippe Clement doesn’t have a lot of options upfront.
Hamza Igamane has rightfully cemented his place in the starting lineup after consistently finding the back of the net for Rangers.
The Moroccan youngster has been one of the Glaswegian outfit’s best players this season, but an injury to the striker could make things difficult for them.
Danilo’s fitness issues will concern fans despite the Brazilian’s impact in recent matches.
If the Bears decide to sell Dessers before the 3 February deadline, they will need to reinforce their attack with additional reinforcements.
In other Rangers news, Jackson has predicted an upset against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
