Rangers v Fraserburgh: BBC reporter shares what Cowie did after 1st Dessers goal

Rangers ace Cyriel Dessers made Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie cover his eyes after he bagged the opener in their Scottish Cup clash on Sunday, Martin Dowden has said.

The Gers were resounding 5-0 victors at Ibrox on 19 January as they made their way through to the next round of the cup.

While they were always expected to be victorious, they likely had somer fans on the edge of their seats at times before pulling away in the second period.

Writing for the BBC Sport live blog (19 January, 14:50pm), BBC Scotland journalist Dowden shared what Cowie did when the Nigeria international bagged the opener.

“The look on Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie’s face said it all after Cyriel Dessers’ goal. He turned to his dugout, half covering his eyes as, after all the hard work his side put in, the concession was so easy,” he wrote.

“Dessers was given far too much space and they were punished.

“That looks to have relaxed Rangers to a degree. The visitors will have to retain focus and return to what they were doing well.”

Cyriel Dessers needs to prove his worth to Rangers and Philippe Clement

Over the last couple of months, Hamza Igamane has been the man that Philippe Clement has relied upon to lead his attacking line.

While his start to life at Ibrox was slightly rocky, he’s managed to really come into his own recently and has proven why the Gers went after him in the summer.

Due to his purple patch of form, many clubs have been linked with an interest in acquiring his services, including some from the Premier League such as Everton.

So, if Dessers wants to earn his starting spot back, he’s going to have to prove his worth when he’s called upon to fill in for the 22-year-old as, even last term, his lack of composure in the final third was the bane of his existence with fans often calling for his head.

Scoring a hat-trick against Fraserburgh was certainly a good way to go about doing that, but he now needs to show this level of clinical finishing consistently against higher-calibre opposition.
