Rangers player slammed live on BBC for ‘horrible’ Ibrox moment v Fraserburgh

Mason Munn was slammed by Stephen McGinn for his “horrible” moment as Rangers saw off Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.

The young goalkeeper was handed a start for Sunday’s (19 January) contest at Ibrox, which the Gers won 5-0.

Munn kept a clean sheet and performed well on the whole, but he almost cost the Gers – for whom there was one standout performer – with a sloppy moment in the first half.

After the keeper gifted the ball to the opposition, McGinn said live on BBC Radio Scotland [19 January, 2:54pm]: “It’s a horrible mistake from Munn, who passes straight to Scott Barbour. What a chance that is.”

Rangers get job done against Fraserburgh

Ibrox fell silence as Barbour had a glorious opportunity to cancel out Cyriel Dessers’ opener, but he could not find the net nor square for his team-mate.

Had that resulted in a goal, the mood would have been a whole lot different at half-time. As it is, Dessers – who also missed a sitter – added two more, while Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland got in on the act.

While he did make an error in the first half, it was still a good showing, albeit Fraserburgh did not offer a great deal in attack.

Munn will be glad to have kept a clean sheet on a rare outing. The 18-year-old knows where he is in the pecking order, so it is nice that he got the chance to show what he can do at Ibrox.

Rangers are now in the hat for the next round and that is all that really mattered for Philippe Clement on the day.

This is a competition that the Gers realistically need to win this term to avoid the season being a complete failure – a deep European run aside – so all focus now is on the draw for the next round.

In other Rangers news, talks are reportedly underway for a senior player to leave Ibrox.
