Rangers player lucky to avoid action in 5-0 win v Fraserburgh – Keith Hackett

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers was fortunate to avoid a yellow card for catching a Fraserburgh player with a high boot in the win over Fraserburgh, according to Keith Hackett.

Dessers’ studs appeared to catch Bryan Hay during the first half of Sunday’s (19 January) Scottish Cup clash at Ibrox as the Gers ran out 5-0 winners.

The Nigeria international escaped any sort of punishment, but former FIFA referee Hackett felt a yellow card was deserved.

“The boot is high and clearly reckless and should have been sanctioned with a yellow card,” Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News. “Players have a duty of care towards an opponent.”

Cyriel Dessers restores confidence in Rangers win v Fraserburgh

Dessers was guilty of an almighty error prior to this incident in which he failed to find the net from close range.

However, he did go on to score a hat-trick to hopefully restore some confidence, which is very much needed right now.

The striker has fallen from first choice down to third, behind the in-form Hamza Igamane and recently returned Danilo.

As for the incident involving Hay, it was silly from Dessers but there was no malice involved, so a yellow card probably would have been the right outcome.
