Rangers news: ‘Major change’ on the cards as Philippe Clement fights sack

Michael Gannon admits that there will be a “major change” in the summer at Rangers with regard to Philippe Clement.

The Daily Record journalist claimed on 18 January that the board look to be buying time by not sacking the Belgian.

In his view, a parting of ways appears to be inevitable, given how his tenure has been thus far.

Gannon said: “Clement has been the comeback kid at Rangers. Every time he seems on the brink, he gets a couple of wins. The board are buying time but it’s only delaying the inevitable and there will be a major change in the summer.”

Rangers have given Philippe Clement multiple chances

The Belgian has done nothing noteworthy at Ibrox that warrants an extended stay at the club.

Had the club not been in financial doldrums, they probably would have parted ways with him earlier.

Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst were both sacked when things weren’t as bad but Clement remains in his role as Gers manager.

It remains to be seen how much longer will the board wait before parting ways with the Belgian as most of the fans have turned on him.

There’s no distinct identity either and the away record is abysmal with the team failing to take control of games and getting the job done.

It’s almost as if the board have written this season off and will look to make all their major decisions in the summer.

In other Rangers news, the club have another deal in the pipeline after securing the services of Rafael Fernandes.
