Neil McCann questions ‘strange’ Clement moment at Ibrox in 5-0 Rangers win
Neil McCann found it “strange” Philippe Clement did not bring on Leon King from the substitutes’ bench earlier on as Rangers saw off Fraserburgh.
The Gers eased into the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 5-0 win at Ibrox on Sunday (19 January), with Cyriel Dessers netting a hat-trick despite an earlier moment to forget.
Clement replaced Robin Propper with a little over an hour of the routine win played, but instead of turning to fellow centre-back King, he instead brought on Ridvan Yilmaz in a reshuffle.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland [19 January, 3:36pm], McCann said: “You’ve got Leon King sat on the bench, so it’s a strange one.”
Leon King will accept time is up at Rangers
King was belatedly brought on by Clement with around eight minutes of the tie to play as he replaced skipper James Tavernier.
The 21-year-old is attracting interest from numerous clubs [Rangers News] and it would not be at all surprising to see him leave before the winter window closes.
Clement preferred to bring on a full-back instead against Fraserburgh and that will not have gone unnoticed by King.
The injuries have piled up at the back for the Gers this campaign, but the signing of Rafael Fernandes on loan at least eases things slightly.
Fernandes was paraded around Ibrox at half-time and is now in contention to make his debut next week.

Whether King will still be around come then, though, is another matter entirely.
With one signing done so far at Ibrox this month, it is important the club now push on to ensure the squad is stronger in three weeks’ time than it was on 1 January.
In other Rangers news, Derek Ferguson has urged the Gers to cash in on another defender this month.
