Dessers exit mooted live on air after what he did in Rangers win v Fraserburgh

Scott Arfield has argued that Cyriel Dessers will always be an attractive potential signing as he continues scoring for Rangers.

The 28-year-old was torn to shreds after missing an open goal against Fraserburgh at Ibrox before ending the Scottish Cup tie with the match ball, netting a hat-trick on 19 January.

Dessers has been continuously linked with a move away from Ibrox before the winter transfer window slams shut, and with Hamza Igamane now the first-choice striker, that remains a possibility.

Speaking live at half-time via BBC Scotland [19 January, 3:05pm], Arfield said: “The fact that he keeps scoring goals puts his name in the conversation, for good and bad. He’s a bit of an enigma in these parts – some love him and others cannot take to him.

“He’s gone from the first-choice No.9 to the 3rd since Igamane’s run of form and Danilo returning from injury. As long as he keeps scoring, his name will be in the conversation for clubs all around Europe.

“He possesses something that people want. Whether he stays here past the next two weeks, I’m not quite sure. If he does, fair play for him to stick it out another six months. He’ll score another 5, 6, 10 goals.”

Cyriel Dessers to end Rangers spell on high note?

For all the criticism aimed at the exit-linked striker, he continues to hit the back of the net and even bounce back when he’s not scoring on a regular basis.

While he scored 22 goals during his first season in Scotland, supporters were still unhappy with his all-round play on the pitch, and understandably so, as he wasted far too many chances.

That trend has continued into the current campaign, but with 13 goals and four assists across all competitions this term, it is easy to see why other clubs want to secure his signature.

With Igamane now finding his feet in Scotland, firing home 13 goals in his 25 appearances, Philippe Clement is unlikely to keep Dessers at Ibrox further than this month if an adequate deal can be found.

Of course, the Gers would love to make some profit on the 28-year-old, and with the calibre of European clubs being interested, there is no reason why the club should settle for less.
