Chris Sutton fires sarcastic dig at Rangers after 5-0 win v Fraserburgh

Chris Sutton sarcastically congratulated Rangers following their convincing 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

Cyriel Dessers netted a neat hat-trick, sandwiching goals from Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland as the Gers welcomed Fraserburgh from the fifth-tier of Scottish football to Ibrox on 19 January.

The comfortable victory allowed youngsters Bailey Rice and Findlay Curtis to be given valuable minutes on the pitch, though Sutton chose to take a negative spin on the game, unsurprisingly.

Speaking live via BBC Radio 5 Live [19 January, 6:37pm], he said: “Rangers, well they were 1-0 up at half-time against fifth-tier Highlanders Fraserburgh but ran out, in the second half, 5-0 winners.

“Well done, Rangers. Really, well done, Rangers…”

Rangers advance in Scottish Cup after Fraserburgh victory

Sutton will, obviously, be enjoying the current campaign as Celtic continue their charge for the Scottish Premiership title while the Light Blues flounder behind them.

However, Clement still has a chance of putting his hand on silverware this season despite all of the pressure mounting on him, a trophy they narrowly missed out on to the Hoops last term.

The Belgian has proven that he can lead his side to victory against their bitter rivals, and Sutton seemed to go rather quiet when the two sides met at Ibrox on Thursday 2 January.

Of course, the Gers’ position in the Scottish Premiership table is absolutely unacceptable, being 13 points behind after 23 matches, but there are still positives remaining at Ibrox.

The Light Blues are still competing in the Europa League and are through to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, but it is not enough to relieve the crushing pressure on the manager.

Right now, Clement’s side can just defeat what is in front of them. With a 5-0 win on Sunday, they have done exactly that, with no need for Sutton to comment.
