Amorim sack: ‘Unacceptable’ Man United situation lays in wait v Rangers
Ruben Amorim could face a “wobble” at Manchester United if his side lose to Rangers on Thursday, says Hugh Keevins.
The Gers travel to Old Trafford on 23 January with a view to securing a top-eight finish in the Europa League after a draw against Tottenham last time out.
A negative result against the Red Devils could prove to be the final straw for Philippe Clement but in his column for the Sunday Mail (19 January, page 57) his Portuguese counterpart could also be in trouble.
He said: “One motivation for Clement. Self-preservation. He can have a long chat with Ruben Amorim on that subject, the United boss having spoken about the tightrope he walks at his place of work.
“A construction that will wobble under Amorim’s feet if he loses to Rangers. Scottish clubs beating English teams in that context is regarded as an unacceptable code of practice.
Ruben Amorim may face Manchester United pressure after Rangers clash
The former Sporting boss hasn’t had the easiest time of it since moving to the Premier League in November.
There have been a mixed bag of results for the 39-year-old so far who may see the Europa League as a chance to begin a positive run of form.
With that being said, the Red Devils will face a tough task against the Light Blues who have typically been excellent in Europe this season.
Clement’s men just always find an extra gear in continental games and the Belgian will be hoping this will be the case at the Theatre of Dreams.

The former Monaco boss is facing heat at Ibrox right now and can once again ease that pressure with a positive result against Amorim’s side.
The Gers need to take advantage of an uncertain situation surrounding the former Braga boss with the hope of securing a famous result in M16 in mid-week.
In other Rangers news, Clement has announced that a star player can now leave for nothing.
