Celtic fans mocked over response to what Rangers boss Clement told BBC pundit
Tom English poked fun at Celtic supporters after a bizarre reaction to his interview with Rangers boss Philippe Clement.
The Belgian has been under pressure at Ibrox throughout the campaign but has since emerged as “a serious contender” for the vacant Belgium position after Dominic Tedesco was dismissed.
However, BBC Scotland reporter English conducted an in-depth interview with the Belgian (BBC Sport, 17 January) and responded to comments via X (18 January) on the large Celtic response.
Writing: “Every comment on this interview with the Rangers manager has come from Celtic folk.”
Rangers getting under the skin of Celtic
While it is worth noting that English’s response to the Celtic comments was in jest, it is indeed bizarre an interview with Clement would evoke such a reaction from the supporters.
He has been accused of pushing a Rangers agenda, and he promptly responded to the claims, but it appears his relationship with the other side in Glasgow is broken beyond repair.
However, the Hoops are running away with the Scottish Premiership, with a 13-point gap over their Glaswegian rivals in January, and they show no signs of slowing down.
Clement had injected a slight slither of hope back into Ibrox with the 3-0 demolition of Celtic on 2 February, but draws against Hibernian and Dundee brought the Gers right back down to Earth.
Rangers have since recorded commanding victories over St Johnstone and Aberdeen, but both matches were played at Ibrox – the concerns this season lie with the side’s performances on the road.
As per Soccer Stats, the Gers boast the best home record in the top division with an unbeaten record of 11 wins and one draw in 12 outings but, have only accumulated 13 points from an available 31 points in their travels.
The Belgian must improve his away form soon, but he faces possibly his worst opponent in breaking his blank spell with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Europa League (23 January).
