Ross McCausland ‘Unbelievable’ after Rangers B-Team development

Ross McCausland has become a role model after his development at Rangers, Callum Burnside says.

The Gers’ Under-18s midfielder has been impressed by McCausland’s rise from the B-Team to the senior side in the last few years.

Burnside looks at his Northern Irish compatriot’s “unbelievable” achievements and wants to replicate them at the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking to the Bears’ official website, the 17-year-old said: “Ross was with the B Team when I first came in, and it just shows what can happen when you put in the hard work to get round to the first-team.

“There’s definitely a chance of getting into the first-team. What Ross has done is unbelievable, and I just want to follow in his footsteps.”

Ross McCausland an inspiration for Rangers youngsters

Nils Koppen has decided to scrap the B-Team setup [Scottish Sun, 16 January], hopefully giving youngsters an opportunity to impress Philippe Clement in the senior squad.

McCausland is proof that hard work and dedication will take you to the top of the game.

The 21-year-old has strived his way through the youth setup and now finds himself in Clement’s plans.

While the Northern Ireland international is still not a nailed-on starter for the Gers, he has been taking massive strides since last season.

In the current campaign, the forward has made 19 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

While McCausland has found minutes hard to come by, he’s competing with the likes of Vaclav Cerny, Nedim Bajrami and Ianis Hagi in the squad.

The 21-year-old’s rise should inspire many more of the Bears’ youngsters to make their way into the first-team setup and possibly make a mark.

Clement needs to give the prospects a chance as the Light Blues face Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup on Sunday (19 January).

In other Rangers news, a youth gem could be handed their first start against the Highland League outfit.
