Rangers to ‘shoot themselves in foot’ as Cyriel Dessers transfer news emerges

Rangers should sign an attacking reinforcement before selling Cyriel Dessers in the winter transfer window, Richard Foster says.

The ex-Gers defender has told the Glaswegian outfit to be wary as the Nigerian striker is attracting interest from abroad.

Foster believes the Light Blues would be shooting themselves in the foot if they let go of the 30-year-old without bolstering their front line.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (16 January), the 39-year-old said: “If they’ve got someone lined up to come in and bolster the squad, then he [Dessers] could possibly go. I would be wary of letting him go before there’s a replacement because you could shoot yourself in the foot.”

Rangers should sanction Cyriel Dessers transfer

Dessers has fallen down the Bears’ pecking order over the last few weeks, and his departure would seemingly have no effect on the team’s current dynamics.

The Nigerian forward has started just twice in the Gers’ last 12 Scottish Premiership fixtures, making him a dispensable asset.

Hamza Igamane’s rise to stardom has been magnificent for the Ibrox faithful to watch, and Philippe Clement will undoubtedly rely on the Moroccan youngster for the rest of the season.

Danilo has also returned in fine fashion for Rangers after his fitness issues at the start of the campaign, giving the Belgian manager plenty of options up front.

While Dessers has scored 13 goals this season, his profligacy has been frustrating for many to watch, and it feels like the right time for the Light Blues to cash in on him.

The Bears could use the funds they get from the centre forward’s exit to fund a defensive transfer before the 3 February deadline.

Dessers’ time at Ibrox is up, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves.
