Rangers stance emerges as Marko Soldo transfer offered
Rangers were offered the chance to sign NK Osijek midfielder Marko Soldo this month, according to Graeme Bailey.
The transfer journalist revealed to Rangers News (17 January) that the Gers could have signed the midfielder, but the deal was deemed too expensive at this stage.
As per the Daily Mail (19 December), Philippe Clement is eager to acquire his services in a reported £2million deal but will need to sanction player sales, most notably Cyriel Dessers, before making his move.
Rangers must sell before pursuing Marko Soldo
It is a testament to the financial circus at Ibrox that one of Scotland’s most illustrious institutions cannot sanction a £2m move.
The Light Blues must once again wheel and deal in the winter transfer market to strengthen the squad leaving Clement little time to spare.
We are already halfway through the transfer window, yet there has been no movement on the transfer front at Ibrox, only mere speculation.
At 21, Soldo would be a fantastic addition to Rangers – the “powerful” midfielder, as dubbed by Croatian outlet Germanijak (20 October), can operate in any role across the centre of the park.

However, the Croatian Under-21 international has affirmed his desire to remain with Osijek until the end of the season, throwing a potential move into doubt.
Considering he was once offered to Rangers, his club would likely accept a suitable offer should Clement generate the necessary funds.
While a move is not entirely off the cards, the odds are certainly stacked against the Gers – Nils Koppen must act fast in offloading the fringe players at Ibrox before he is left scrambling for options towards the end of the window.
