Philippe Clement ‘will not get Rangers sack’ even if Fraserburgh win

Rangers will not sack Philippe Clement even if they lose to Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist joked that the Belgian manager would not be fired even if the Highland League outfit beat the Gers at Ibrox on Sunday (19 January).

The season under the Belgian manager has been such that a win at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Europa League on 23 January may follow a loss to Fraserburgh.

Speaking on Hotline Live (16 January), Jackson laughed and said: “He’d [Clement] probably still keep his job and then go down the road and beat Man United.”

Philippe Clement lucky to survive Rangers sack

Clement has been lucky to survive the sack in the current campaign after the team has put in poor performances.

Under the 50-year-old head coach, the Light Blues have found some form in recent weeks, but the results have been marred by inconsistency.

The Ibrox faithful have been calling for the Belgian manager’s dismissal for some time now and have now held protests at Ibrox to show their discontent.

Rangers were without a chief executive officer and a permanent chairman during the start of the season, but Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton filled those vacancies in December.

The Gers fans would think now that there’s stability in the boardroom, a swift decision regarding Clement’s future will be made.

It seems that the Bears’ hierarchy are backing the former Monaco boss for now, but it remains to be seen how long he can survive.

The Scottish Cup presents an opportunity to lift silverware in the current campaign, and defeat to Fraserburgh should be the end of the Belgian manager’s tenure at Ibrox.
