Philippe Clement Rangers exit ‘an inevitability’ after sack development

Philippe Clement’s future at Rangers has been an ongoing topic of discussion throughout the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season.

The Gers have been maddeningly inconsistent this season, putting in some genuinely excellent performances in the Europa League but falling well short in the league.

Away from Ibrox is where the real issues lie, given in home games they have only dropped two points, and their road sickness has left them 13 points shy of rivals Celtic.

Remarkably Clement has managed to keep clinging on the manager’s hotseat at Ibrox despite the regular setbacks this season.

There have been suggestions that Rangers just simply cannot afford to sack Clement but a development today means they might not have to.

Philippe Clement could leave Rangers as Belgium sack Tedesco

Indeed, it is sack news elsewhere that makes it so. It was confirmed by the Belgium national team today that Domenic Tedesco, who has long been under pressure, is to leave his role as head coach.

Clement himself has previously been tipped as a leading contender to replace Tedesco (Daily Record) and the timing now could hardly be more perfect.

Belgium need a new manager, Rangers need a cost-effective way of getting the 50-year-old out of Ibrox. Call it putting two and two together to get five if you wish, but the dominos appear to be falling to make Clement’s exit an inevitability.

The stars have aligned and suffering Gers supporters may finally get their wish for Clement to depart, just maybe not in the way they would have initially imagined.
