Rangers slammed for ‘garbage’ development as news emerges from Ibrox

Derek Ferguson was not pleased with how Rangers handled Ianis Hagi’s situation at the start of the season.

The Romanian was not part of the senior squad in the initial weeks of the season with the club sorting out a contractual dispute.

However, given the lack of options at Philippe Clement’s disposal, the Romanian was brought back into the first team and has been a regular in recent weeks.

Speaking about the club’s mismanagement behind the scenes, Ferguson told Open Goal on 16 January at 58:38

“You can look at Hagi is come in by default, nobody to sign because all the garbage that went on. They couldn’t just sit around the table and discuss it. He’s kind of stumbled upon that.”

Rangers cannot be making such shoddy boardroom decisions

The situation with the Romanian at Ibrox was particularly frustrating because it highlighted a lack of professionalism and foresight from the club’s management.

Hagi, a player known for his technical ability and creativity, was sidelined due to contractual disputes at the start of the season, only being reintegrated when the team lacked other options.

This delay meant that the club missed out on the 26-year-old’s potential contributions during crucial early matches, where his flair could have made a significant difference.

His eventual return has shown his value, proving that his absence was a self-inflicted wound for the club.

For a side with ambitions of becoming serial winners, such mismanagement behind the scenes is unacceptable.

It reflects poorly on the board’s seriousness and competence in handling player affairs, which directly impacts team performance.
