Rangers ‘have transfer priorities all wrong’ after Lyall Cameron update

Rangers fans will arguably be frustrated they haven’t made a single signing in the winter transfer window despite the desperate need to reinforce the squad.

The Gers have had a poor season so far, sitting 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

While Philippe Clement has managed to make his team play better in parts, the consistency is nowhere near good enough and the squad is thin.

The Light Blues finally found a formula to produce more creativity in the final third, with the likes of Hamza Igamane, Danilo and Ianis Hagi stepping up.

Connor Barron has also been dropped to the bench after the fruitful partnership between Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande emerged.

Rangers shouldn’t focus on Lyall Cameron transfer

While the Glaswegian outfit have put in improved displays in patches, the fragility in defence is still something that needs to be addressed.

Clement can’t be solely blamed for the rut in the backline, considering he’s been without his best centre-back, John Souttar, for a while now.

Rangers need a new central defender immediately but are instead closing in on Lyall Cameron from Dundee, according to The Rangers Review.

The news outlet reports (16 January) that reinforcing the backline is one of their priorities, but there has been no movement in almost half of the transfer window.

What will be frustrating for the Ibrox faithful is the seeming lack of urgency that Nils Koppen and the rest of the recruitment department have shown so far.

Although the Glaswegian outfit is unlikely to win the league title, the Scottish Cup is still in play.

It feels like the Bears’ hierarchy has completely written the campaign off, which doesn’t bode well for the coming months.

In other Rangers news, Dermot Gallagher has accused the referee of making an error in the win over Aberdeen.
