John McGarry names threat to Rangers at Ibrox amid ‘rumblings of discontent’

Rangers could be dealt a blow to their form at home by protests in the Ibrox crowd, says John McGarry.

The Union Bears supporter group have made their feelings known in the last two clashes with walkouts and banners calling for a change in leadership in Govan.

This hasn’t yet hampered Philippe Clement’s side after winning 3-0 against Aberdeen on Wednesday night (16 December) but McGarry believes it soon could.

In his column for the Scottish Daily Mail (page 71), he wrote: “The threat to such consistency in Govan no longer just comes from other Premiership sides. It lurks in the rumblings of discontent and in acts of protest in the stands. Players are only human. They’re not impervious to negativity.”

Rangers fans discontent could hamper Ibrox form

It is safe to say that the Light Blues’ faithful have had enough of what they are seeing from their side and its hierarchy in recent months.

There has been plenty of frustration in the boardroom in Govan, which has seen CEO Patrick Stewart come in and be under fire almost immediately.

This hasn’t been helped by a poor season on the pitch under Clement where results at Ibrox have been largely positive despite being 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership race.

Regardless of this, supporters are still unhappy with the situation and have staged multiple actions to showcase this to the Govan hierarchy.

This could ultimately prove to be a negative factor which takes its toll on the Gers in the coming weeks, especially with a clash against Manchester United coming up.

Clement and Co. need the fans behind them at Ibrox but until a change is made, it could be a while before supporters stop showing their frustrations.
