John Hartson tells Rangers to ship out ‘Deadwood’ after transfer news he’s heard
John Hartson has told Rangers to ship out both Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo in the winter transfer window.
Dessers and Matondo have been consistently linked with moves away from Glasgow since the winter window opened.
The duo haven’t been in the best of form this term with Matondo missing most of the campaign due to injury.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (15 January), Hartson shared his honest opinion on what Rangers should do with the attacking pair.
“[I’m] not being disrespectful but in football terms you’d call them [Dessers and Matondo] deadwood,” Hartson said.
“Why would you want to carry on with six or seven deadwood players who come on and give you nothing?
“They’re consistently injured, they’re consistently out the team, they’re not worth anything to the manager if they’re not in the squad.
“They’ve got to be consistent, some rightly so get injured and you can legislate for a bad injury but the ones who are not performing, the ones who are sitting in the stands, happy to pick up their wages, Philippe Clement has got to identify these people.
“Because at Rangers at the minute, barring some injuries they’ve got a couple of players who don’t deserve to be at the club simply because they’re not performing.”
Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo could be on their way out of Rangers
Both Matondo and Dessers have been linked with an Ibrox exit for some time now.
The former of the two has missed most of the campaign due to injury and has had little to no impact on the way things have gone for Clement’s men this term.
Dessers, on the other hand, was the Belgian’s main man at the start of the season but due to the recent upturn in form from Hamza Igamane, he’s been rightfully sidelined.
Although the Nigeria international was Rangers’ top scorer last season, he was consistently linked with an exit throughout summer but eventually stayed put.

However, due to the form Igamane has been in recently, it feels like his time in Glasgow could soon be up with multiple Serie A sides interested in acquiring his services.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for the duo but at the moment, nothing is set in stone.
In other Rangers news, Nils Koppen now has another transfer headache to solve at Ibrox.
