Rangers ‘set for likely fine’ after Ibrox trouble – Expert

Dan Plumley would be amazed if Rangers were not fined after fan troubles against Celtic at Ibrox in their 3-0 win on 2 January.

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels was struck by an object in the final minutes of the game, with Brendan Rodgers also targeted throughout.

With Police Scotland investigating the matter after, the football finance expert admitted that a fine was very likely from the Scottish FA too.

“I think it’s likely,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.

“We’ve said this before and it’s almost become common place with this fixture, whether it’s at Ibrox, Celtic Park or a neutral ground, there seems to be some kind of trouble.

Rangers set for Scottish FA fine

We get the rivalry and hostility with the fixture, of course, but actions like that are only likely to end up in a fine.

I’d be amazed if a fine isn’t coming for that.”

Rangers return to Scottish Premiership action at Ibrox against Aberdeen on 15 January, with no fan trouble expected despite an away allocation.

The Old Firm fixture is still without away fans, and it is incidents like these that will make sure that trend continues, despite several calls for it to change from both sides.

Philippe Clement will be hoping to follow up the 3-1 win over St Johnstone with another huge three points against the Dons, who are quickly falling away without a trace.

With second place nearly in his hands, Clement will want to secure that as early as possible at Ibrox.
