Rangers hijack on cards amid major Filip Benkovic transfer twist
Rangers could now look to make a last-gasp hijack and sign former Celtic centre-back Filip Benkovic in the January transfer window.
The Croatia international has been mooted as a potential January transfer option given the club’s lack of fit centre-backs. [Daily Record, 7 January]
Neraysho Kasanwirjo appears to be ruled out for the long term while John Souttar, Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun have all had fitness issues recently.
Rangers can capitalise on Filip Benkovic’s failed move to Le Havre AC
Benkovic, 27, is currently a free agent and appeared to be on his way to Le Havre AC.
Foot Mercato journalist Josue Casse reported on 15 January that he failed to reach an agreement after having talks with the club.
It’s evident that Gers are eyeing a new defender in January and bringing in someone who’s got prior SPFL experience, albeit at rivals Celtic, would be a wise move.
As he’s a free agent, the upside is that there would be no transfer fee involved in order to secure the Croatian’s services.
He could also be signed on a short-term contract to gauge if he’s good enough to be at the club for the foreseeable future.

Nils Koppen knows that money is tight at Ibrox so he would be open to all potential avenues to bring in free agents.
In other Rangers news, it has been revealed how much the club need to pay in order to sack Philippe Clement.
