Kieran Dowell ‘must be sold’ by Rangers with transfer needed – Chris Jack
Rangers should sell Kieran Dowell and not give him game time in the first team, Chris Jack says.
The Rangers Review journalist believes that every minute the 27-year-old plays instead of Bailey Rice is a “waste”, with a move away the best outcome for everyone involved.
The English midfielder has found life difficult at Ibrox, and his prospects in Glasgow look dim.
Speaking on The Rangers Review (15 January), Jack said: “Every minute that Dowell gets that Rice doesn’t, for me, that’s just a waste right now.
“No disrespect to Dowell, but his Rangers career has not worked out, and he’s not going to ever nail one of those midfield spots and be a starter there. It’s best for all concerned if he moves on.”
Kieran Dowell needs to leave Rangers in winter transfer window
Dowell joined the Light Blues in the summer of 2023 from Norwich City but has failed to make a mark in the Scottish Premiership.
After making just 16 appearances in all competitions last season, the attacking midfielder has once again struggled for game time this term, starting just twice in the league.
Vaclav Cerny has become an influential player for Philippe Clement on the right-hand side, with Ianis Hagi returning to the fold and Nedim Bajrami being signed too.

Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande have formed a brilliant partnership in the engine room, and the Gers seem to have found their best starting side with Dowell nowhere near it.
It would make sense for youngsters and academy stars to be handed minutes in the senior squad rather than bit-part players like Dowell, as this so-called project progresses.
It remains to be seen whether the Bears will be able to offload the 27-year-old soon, with interested clubs not exactly queuing up, it seems.
In other Rangers news, the favourites to land Cerny have emerged after a dream loan move.
