Kevin Clancy: Ex-FIFA official reacts to Rangers v Aberdeen incident
Kevin Clancy almost helped Rangers score an extra goal in their 3-0 win against Aberdeen due to his poor positioning, according to Keith Hackett.
In the eighth minute, Hamza Igamane almost opened the scoring at Ibrox when Kevin Nisbet failed to meet a pass out of the Aberdeen defence due to a collision with referee Clancy in the middle of the park.
Nicolas Raskin managed to intercept the ball before Igamane’s shot just went wide of Ross Doohan’s far post.
Former Premier League and FIFA referee Hackett has revealed that Clancy should be getting coached to avoid situations like that.
“When officiating, your movement patterns are to avoid getting hit with the ball and being in the way of players,” Hackett told Ibrox News.
“The physical training during the week is to ensure that you can address dynamic sprints at seven meters per second.

“Sadly the referee got in the way. He needs to ensure it does not happen again
“When coaching referees we state clearly that if they are caught in the way then stand still and let the players run around you.”
Clancy in the way in Rangers v Aberdeen
Scottish refereeing standards have been massively under the microscope this season.
Willie Collum apologised to Rangers in December after the Gers were denied a blatant penalty against Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final at Hampden Park.
Clancy himself was in the thick of it last month when Rangers played Motherwell by ruling out a Jack Butland own-goal that probably should have stood.
It’s unlikely that this incident will create headlines but it’s yet another show of how standards need to improve.
