Aberdeen ‘disaster’ v Rangers as Sky Sports pundit lashes out live on air

James McFadden slammed Sivert Heltne Nilsen after the Aberdeen player gifted Rangers their opening goal in their 3-0 win at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Hamza Igamane got the Gers off to a flier in their latest Scottish Premiership clash after he capitalised on some slack play by Nilsen in the Dons’ defence.

After a pass out to him by goalkeeper Ross Doohan, Nilsen was dispossessed by Vaclav Cerny after the Aberdeen man failed to control the ball.

McFadden was thrilled with Igamane’s finish but was less than impressed by the midfielder, who was playing in Jimmy Thelin’s defence at Ibrox.

“It’s ruthless from Rangers, but it’s really slack from Aberdeen,” said McFadden on Sky Sports Football (08:13pm, 15 January).

“Nilsen. He’s a midfielder playing at the back and you’d expect him to be able to control the ball. But he takes his eye off it.

“It’s a nice, composed finish from Igamane. It’s a disaster for Aberdeen.”

Aberdeen rotten as they gift Rangers lead

It’s not hard to see why Aberdeen have slumped so badly down the Scottish Premiership table.

There was some tongue-in-cheek chat about them winning the league not too long ago. Now, they’re fourth, 12 points behind Rangers, below Dundee United and falling into the grasp of fifth-placed Motherwell.

Thelin’s side haven’t won since 9 November.

In that time, they’ve played 13 matches and won just four points in the league.

Igamane, on the other hand, is in blistering form in front of goal as he starts to stake a claim to win the Scottish Premiership Golden Boot Award.

It’s a good job for the Light Blues that Aberdeen’s form has fallen off a cliff because this already embarrassing season would have been a whole lot worse if the Dons were to finish ahead of them in the final standings.
