Tony Docherty makes Rangers transfer admission after recent news
Dundee boss Tony Docherty is not surprised Rangers are interested in Lyall Cameron.
However, the Scottish head coach has insisted that talks around the Gers and the 22-year-old are mere speculation at this point.
The Light Blues are looking to agree a pre-contract with the midfielder amid an offer to extend his stay at Dens Park [Scottish Sun, 10 January].
Speaking via the Daily Record (13 January), Docherty said: “It’s no surprise when a player like that is out of contract and there will be interest in him. It is purely speculation at the moment. We have a lot of players, six or seven, who are out of contract at the end of the season.
“We have identified, as a club, to offer contract extensions and it is then their prerogative what they do with them. A couple have come back and said they will sign, and others are exploring their options.
“Lyall is in that category. It is the business we are in and it doesn’t surprise me that there is that amount of speculation about Lyall because he is an extremely talented young footballer.”
Rangers transfer interest in Lyall Cameron exciting
It must be encouraging for the Ibrox faithful to see their team pursuing one of the best youngsters in Scotland on a pre-contract agreement.
The Dees would be entitled to compensation if the Gers do sign the 22-year-old as they did with the Connor Barron transfer.
While the midfielder is an established member of the Dark Blues’ first-team setup, he has come into his own this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers currently have an abundance of talent in their midfield, with Nicolas Raskin cementing his place in the engine room after some influential performances.
Mohamed Diomande has partnered the Belgian midfielder in recent matches and hasn’t looked out of place in a deeper role.

Philippe Clement has also deployed Ianis Hagi in the middle of the park on occasions in the current campaign, with the Romanian playmaker enjoying a resurgence at Ibrox.
Barron’s game time has dwindled in the last few weeks, but the 22-year-old showcased his talent during the first half of the campaign.
If the Gers could secure a move for Cameron in the coming months, they would add more quality to an already strong engine room.
In other Rangers news, the amount that Clement would be entitled to as compensation has been revealed.
