Rangers news: Philippe Clement sack compensation revealed

Ross McCormack has shared that Rangers may need to pay Philippe Clement £7.5million in order to sack him.

Gers find themselves 15 points behind leaders Celtic, but CEO Patrick Stewart has stated publicly that the club back him.

The Ibrox outfit have struggled on the road this season and despite beating the Hoops 3-0 at home, they have failed to make that result count.

McCormack, a BBC pundit, told Open Goal on 13 January at 34:18: “£2.5million a year and he’s going to have three years left so they’re going to have to if they’re going to sack him, they’re going to have to pay him £7.5million. They’re going to have to pay millions to sack him. They can’t afford to do it.”

Rangers are paying for their own mistakes with regards to Philippe Clement

£7.5million certainly is a steep fee to pay a manager to sack him and that explains why the board have not yet acted.

However, they have only themselves to blame after handing him a long-term contract in the summer.

There was no need to commit to him for years as his deal still had a while to go.

Had he miraculously turned things around last season won Gers the league then it’s understandable and would be fully merited.

However, there were no tangible signs of progress even last season and this time around, it’s been a few steps back for the Ibrox outfit.

They will have to sit down and have talks to bring down the fee with Clement’s representatives if they are indeed serious about parting ways with him.

In other Rangers news, a major development has occurred in Gers’ race to sign a Liverpool-born striker this month.
