Johan Mjallby shares ‘Shocking’ thing he has seen about Rangers
Rangers winning only 13 of their 22 Scottish Premiership fixtures this season is “shocking”, Johan Mjallby says.
The former Celtic defender is baffled by the Gers’ league record, especially their form away from home.
Mjallby believes the Light Blues should be good enough to dominate most teams in Scotland but, surprisingly, aren’t able to do so under Philippe Clement.
Speaking on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club (13 January), the ex-Swedish centre-back said: “They’ve only won 13 out of 22 league games. That’s shocking for a club like Rangers.
“Their away form is just incredible because they should be good enough, whoever wears that shirt, to be able to have 65, 70 per cent of possession against the teams apart from Celtic and be able to create more and open up defences, which they don’t. They are better without possession.”
Rangers record away from Ibrox abysmal
The Bears have struggled when not playing at Ibrox this season, winning just three of their 11 matches.
Over the last few weeks, the Gers have failed to get the better of St Mirren, Motherwell, Hibernian and Dundee despite smashing past Celtic during that period.
It feels like the players aren’t stepping up to the plate on occasions that aren’t big enough, leading to inconsistent displays.
Rangers are 15 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the league table, which is embarrassing, and they can’t let that gap increase.
While winning the Scottish Premiership is unlikely in the current campaign, the Light Blues need to finish second, with Dundee United and Aberdeen behind.
The Bears have a couple of games at Ibrox before a big test against Manchester United in the Europa League at Old Trafford on 23 January.
It will undoubtedly be difficult for Clement to beat Ruben Amorim’s team, but the Glaswegian outfit must fight hard against the Premier League side to convince supporters they are moving in the right direction.
