Rangers need to sign a defender before a striker this month

Losing out on Gelhardt isn’t a major setback for Gers as their primary focus in the January transfer window should be bolstering their defence, rather than adding another striker.

The team currently has a pressing need for a versatile defender capable of playing both right-back and centre-back, with injuries and a lack of depth at these positions being evident and the injuries.

This priority is underscored by the team’s defensive performances, which have been inconsistent, especially considering the importance of maintaining a robust backline for both domestic and European competitions.

While attacking options are always valuable, Gers have other players who can step up in the forward line.

Hence, diverting resources and attention to secure a defender who can offer flexibility and reliability across the back would be more beneficial for the team’s immediate needs.

Nils Koppen needs to work on bringing in a defender ahead of an attacker as they have more options there.
