Philippe Clement could exit Rangers imminently as Belgium job claim made

Johan Boskamp thinks Rangers boss Philippe Clement could still be on Belgium’s radar as they seek a new manager as soon as possible.

The 50-year-old remains under huge amounts of pressure at Rangers due to his side sitting 15 points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The Belgian native has the board’s backing for now, though, and after a 3-1 win against St Johnstone on Sunday (12 January), the boss will have earned himself a bit more time despite protests from supporters.

However, manager-turned-pundit Boskamp reckons it could be Clement who has the opportunity to leave Ibrox as he said, as quoted by Glasgow Times [13 January]: “I am sure Philippe Clement’s name has certainly been discussed [regarding the Belgium job].

“But I hope Philippe can still straighten things out at Rangers. He is still young and will certainly get chances to become the national coach of Belgium in the future.

“The new manager has to be Belgian. There are enough good Belgian coaches. They just have to make clear choices.”

Philippe Clement set for Rangers exit?

If you offered Rangers fans the option for Belgium to swoop in and take Clement off their hands, many of them would surely bite your hand off at that option.

The Gers have not been up to it this term and the fact they sit so far below Celtic in the table shows just how poorly they are doing – and how far away they are from what is expected of the team.

The boss has not had the easiest of circumstances to work under at Ibrox since his arrival at the club, which has surely impacted his job up to this point.

However, there is no escaping how the 50-year-old has under-delivered across the campaign so far and there is little to suggest that the manager will be able to transform the Light Blues and take them to any success.

Whether Belgium will look at the Gers manager as a possible appointment will be seen but at this stage, many of the Rangers faithful may not see this as a loss.

In other Rangers news, Nils Koppen must be wise to what a manager has said about a Gers transfer target.
