Kris Boyd reacts to Rangers fan protest inside Ibrox live on Sky Sports
Kris Boyd accepts there is now a disconnect in the Rangers fanbase as he reacted to the protest that took place at Ibrox against St Johnstone.
The Union Bears group staged a protest in the 55th-minute of the clash on Sunday (12 January) as supporters fled the stands at Ibrox in retaliation for Patrick Stewart’s public backing of Philippe Clement.
While the Gers returned to winning ways against the Scottish Premiership strugglers, Boyd addressed the protests live on Sky Sports Main Event (12 January, 5:22pm) and backed the supporters.
He said: “There’s no doubt there is [disconnect]. I think a lot of fans would have had a go at the Union Bears – there’s definitely a disconnect.
“But Rangers won the game today and now have a chance to get another home win on Wednesday against Aberdeen.
“The key for Rangers now is their away form. The fans spend a lot of money and expect better.”
Rangers must address the disconnect with the fanbase
The supporters have simply had enough of Clement, and the longer he remains at the helm at Rangers, the longer the evident divide will exist among the supporters.
Clement remains under severe pressure in Glasgow and has been throughout the season – the draws against Hibernian and Dundee following a 3-0 win against Celtic sums up his tenure.
A victory at home against bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone does little to ease the concerns regarding the boss as he chases an insurmountable 15-point gap to Celtic.
While January provides another opportunity for the Gers to bolster the squad ahead of the second half of the season, no influx of new talent will save Clement from the wrath of the supporters.

For far too long, the Rangers faithful have seen their voices fall on dead ears; at this stage, it would be surprising for even the Belgian to believe he has the tools to turn his fortunes around.
His biggest test will not be the upcoming SPFL clash against Aberdeen on Wednesday (15 January), but the trip to Manchester United in the Europa League before the away clash against Dundee United.
The Light Blues’ form away from Ibrox is appalling – Clement must start getting results on the road if he stands even a slither of a chance of remaining at Rangers until the end of the season.
