Billy Dodds lets rip at what he saw in Rangers v St Johnstone – ‘Suicide Football’
Billy Dodds believes St Johnstone were playing “suicide football” in their Scottish Premiership clash against Rangers on Sunday.
The Gers left Ibrox with three points to add to their tally after they went three goals up in the first 25 minutes of the game, which they ended up winning 3-1.
Philippe Clement’s men have had a topsy-turvy campaign thus far with many fans calling for the head of the Belgian after the underperformance of his side..
Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland (12 January), BBC pundit and former Gers striker Dodds shared his thoughts on the visitors’ defending.
“All your forward-thinking players have chucked it now, they’re like ‘we’re not going to win the game so we’re just going to have to defend,’” he said.
“So your threat is gone, you lose your forward from middle to front and it’s just a case of damage limitation, even your forward players are thinking that now.
“It’s suicide football at times, it really is”.
Philippe Clement needs to try and keep performances at Rangers to a high standard
Although fans want to see the back of Clement with the Union Bears even staging a walkout in the 55th minute of their Scottish Premiership clash, it seems that the Belgian is set to stay on for now.
The 50-year-old was offered an extension to his stay after the summer transfer window was closed, which baffled both fans and pundits alike.
Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing but the more the season has gone on the more baffling that decision has looked and Clement still has much to do to silence the doubters.

We’re also now a third of the way through the January transfer window so if a new manager was welcomed through the Ibrox doors at this point, it wouldn’t give them enough time to target the areas that need bolstering in January.
Indeed, Clement has a lot of making up to do if he wants to get fans behind him again and unless he can find a way to get his men to perform to a high standard consistently, it’s hard to see how he could be kept in his role.
