Rangers transfer news: David Edgar moots permanent exit of player
David Edgar believes that Leon King not being included in the Rangers eleven against Dundee all but seals his future at the club.
Given the defensive crisis at Ibrox, Philippe Clement decided to hand Clinton Nsiala his first start, leaving King on the bench.
Robin Propper played alongside Nsiala at Dens Park on Thursday, 9 January.
Via X, the Heart and Hand podcast host wrote: “Think any small lingering doubt about Leon King’s future is now gone. For his own good, he needs to leave and go play football regularly.”
Rangers and Leon King must consider parting ways
It makes sense for King to consider establishing his career someplace other than Ibrox.
At 20, while he would not expect to play too much, he would certainly want more game time than he’s getting.
Knowing that he’s behind Nsiala too in the pecking order, a player who’s mainly been featuring for the B team, is an indicator as clear as any that he’s not rated by the manager.
His deal at Ibrox runs out in 2026 so if Gers are to sell him, this window could be ideal for them to do so.
It remains to be seen whether there are any clubs showing a keen interest in securing his services in the coming weeks.
He’s still 20 so he can fetch a decent fee so if he’s not in the club’s long-term plans then selling him does make a lot of sense.
In other Rangers news, the club are readying a move for a new January transfer set to cost them £1million.
