Rangers make Philippe Clement sack decision as ‘calamity’ revealed
Philippe Clement is in a position in which the Rangers board are actively trying to not sack him, according to Hugh MacDonald.
The Daily Mail journalist claims that calamity would ensue if Gers do part ways with their manager and that will only happen when fans stop showing up to games.
In his view, that does not seem to be happening so the Belgian’s job at Ibrox is safe for the time being.
He told PLZ Soccer on 31:11: “Clement is in a position where the board is actively not trying to sack him. There isn’t a board that more wants to keep their manager than Rangers because in all strategy, business sense, the calamity that would ensue, what kind of manager would they get in?
“There’s no way they want to fire him. The tipping point is when, if and when the stands desert them and there’s no sign of that happening at the moment.”
Rangers have themselves to blame for the mess they are in
The situation Gers find themselves in is due to years of financial mismanagement and also poor planning in terms of the signings and managers at the club.
Clement should’ve been long gone, given the abysmal away record, but the club aren’t in a position where they can afford to sack him.
Things might have to get even worse before the board decide to take action and the fans are certainly bearing the grunt of it.
There are days when things appear to be rosy but there is no consistency whatsoever from the team and a lot of it is on the manager.
Even against Dundee on 9 January, it was far from an easy watch as the players often appeared clueless on the field of play.
At this stage, it’s hard to see how Clement can turn things around but he still remains in the job, against all odds.
In other Rangers news, the club are keen on signing a Golden Boot winner in the January transfer window.
