Rangers in preliminary talks for Dessers sale as transfer news emerges
Rangers are ready to sell Cyriel Dessers and have engaged in preliminary talks to offload the striker, according to Rangers Review.
The established supporter platform revealed (10 January) that the Gers have held early discussions with interested clubs around the Nigerian international, whose contract expires in the summer of 2027.
Dessers signed at Ibrox from Cremonese in 2023 having featured 26 times in Serie A for the Italian club, and a potential route back to Italy has been debated with Cagliari and Empoli both thought to be interested parties (Gianluca di Marzio, 9 January).
Despite scoring 34 goals within the past season-and-a-half in a blue shirt, Dessers, now 30, has found game time hard to come by of late after falling behind Hamza Igamane and Danilo in the pecking order.
Rangers appear keen to sell Cyriel Dessers
Rangers are certainly open to the sale of Dessers during this month’s transfer window as major surgery on Philippe Clement’s squad continues – it looks even at the point that the club are eager to offload him.
With sustained minutes sporadic at present for the striker, an opportunity to either return to Serie A or find another suitable destination could be the career kickstart he needs, and would free up funds for Rangers to strengthen elsewhere.
Dessers led the Light Blues’ scoring charts last campaign but many supporters would argue he could easily have doubled the 22 he totalled.

He has found the net 12 times this season but a lot of these goals have come from the bench, and he has again been one of several players vilified for letting the team down in games that have yielded poor results.
Dessers is not yet even halfway through the four-year contract he signed to take him to Glasgow from Italy, but may now see his days at Ibrox numbered.
