Philippe Clement sack: Adrian Durham can’t fathom Rangers decision

Adrian Durham has admitted he can’t understand how Philippe Clement is still in his job at Rangers after the 1-1 draw with Dundee.

Pressure has been mounting on the Belgian for some time now with the Gers miles off what is expected of them in the Scottish Premiership.

A draw at seventh-placed Dundee on Thursday (9 January) has left Clement’s side sitting 15 points behind Celtic, who occupy the top spot.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (10 January, 07:18), when asked by Alan Brazil if the boss is on thin ice, Durham did not hold back in his analysis as he said: “Well I don’t see why he’s still there. I think it’s bizarre.

“When you think about why other managers at Rangers have gone. You know, particularly Giovanni van Bronckhorst years ago, I cannot understand how he’s still there.

“Maybe that Old Firm result is keeping him clinging on but I don’t see him being there next season.”

Philippe Clement still clinging on at Rangers

While the result in the Old Firm derby at the start of January was a great result for the Gers and suggested there is some quality in the Scottish Premiership side, it means nothing if the Light Blues cannot back this up.

A 15-point gap between Rangers and Celtic is unacceptable for the Gers and if the club hierarchy are serious about showing where they think the outfit should be then surely their managerial appointment has to reflect this.

However, with the financial issues ongoing at Ibrox, this could be a key reason why the Belgian continues to keep his position with any change surely being too late to cause any impactful change in the Scottish Premiership with the gap between first and second so big.

Nevertheless, it feels inevitable that Clement will get the sack eventually given he has shown no signs of being able to take the club forward on a long-term steady basis but the supporters may have to stick it out for a bit longer before anything happens.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are keen on signing a Golden Boot winner in the January transfer window.
