Dessers exit: Another Serie A club eye transfer for Rangers ace after Cagliari

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers is now on the radar of Serie A club Empoli, Gianluca Di Marzio has said.

Centotrentuno reported (8 January) that fellow Italian top-flight side Cagliari were eyeing a loan-to-buy for the Nigeria international striker.

Di Marzio confirmed on his website (10 January) that Cagliari are looking at the 30-year-old but that Empoli are also looking at a transfer for the exit-linked Ibrox man.

Cyriel Dessers Rangers days look numbered

Dessers has long been a much-maligned figure at Rangers.

A player with, in truth, a decent goal record but a player who has squandered so, so may chances in a Rangers shirt it makes you want to bang your head against a wall.

With Hamza Igamane emerging as a real gem in recent weeks and Danilo also on the books, the time does look right for Rangers to cash in on Dessers, who has previously played in Italy with Como.

The fact of the matter is that Dessers is just never going to fully win over a, rightly, sceptical fanbase. It would make sense to get his wages off the books, bring in a bit of cash if possible, and look to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Let’s be right, the title isn’t coming to Ibrox this season so why wait to start the rebuild? It clubs in Italy are queuing up then strike a deal and get him gone.
