Philippe Clement sack: Rangers told to forget Celtic as torture emerges

Tom English believes Rangers should back Philippe Clement in a “sane world” after another disappointing draw at Dundee on Thursday.

The Bears crashed to a 1-1 draw at Dens Park on 9 January, with Vaclav Cerny rescuing a point after a poor opening goal was conceded within minutes.

BBC journalist, English, hit back at sack pressure on Clement, saying Rangers need to forget about Celtic right now with the chase torturing them at Ibrox.

Writing on X after the draw at Dundee, English hit back, saying: “In a sane world Rangers would back a manager, show strength amid fan fury and accept that their rebuild is so huge they have to forget about Celtic for a number of years while they create a vibrant young team.

“This is not a sane world. Panic and the ‘chase’ is torturing them.”

Rangers to sack Philippe Clement?

The Belgian is under intense pressure at Ibrox after four poor results either side of the magical victory over Celtic in Clement’s seventh Old Firm attempt.

The Gers are 15 points behind the league leaders after a dismal season which has largely been a result of their abysmal away form.

The Light Blues have won three of their matches on the road, losing and drawing four to record a total of 13 points, their lowest tally in 19 years at this stage of the season.

New CEO Patrick Stewart will be forced to address the situation shortly with supporters beginning to turn on the manager.

He can either back Clement and warn fans of the severity of the rebuild as English has suggested or he could give him an ultimatum, win the next few matches or you lose your job.

Either way, supporters need to know what is going on and the club needs to be united in terms of the direction that they are going in.
