Rangers make contact to complete Niko Katic transfer
Rangers have now made contact for the transfer of Nikola Katic, according to Keith Jackson.
The defender has recently been linked with an Ibrox return due to the Gers’ current injury situation in defence with both John Souttar and Leon Balogun sidelined.
Katic’s agent said the defender would favour a return to Glasgow and it now seems that the club has made contact with the Bosnia and Herzegovina international to make a move [Daily Record, 7 January].
“I believe there has been contact made, there have been some sort of discussions had behind the scenes,” Jackson said on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (7 December).
“Rangers have been made aware that this deal is there to be done. I think it very much looks like Nikola Katic will be on the move, whether that be to Ibrox or to England or something over the course of the next few weeks”.
Nikola Katic would be an ideal addition for Rangers and Philippe Clement
As most will know, Rangers are in the midst of a defensive injury crisis that has seen Dujon Sterling shoehorned into centre-back in order for Rangers to field a starting XI.
Since the start of the term fans have questioned whether the Gers have enough depth among their ranks with just three senior centre-backs available to them and evidently, it’s come back to shoot them in the foot.
If Souttar and Balogun managed to stay fit it wouldn’t have been as much of a problem but with the injury-prone nature of the Scotsman and the ageing body of the Nigeria international, something bad was bound to happen.

Katic is still only 28 years old and is evidently looking for a way out of Zurich with just 18 months left on his current deal.
The return of the centre-back would no doubt boost the morale of the team tenfold and would almost certainly give the Gers a better chance of doing well in the Europa League which is likely their main goal now the title is out of reach.
In other Rangers news, a Jonny Evans question has been pondered after recent links that have surfaced.
