Kris Boyd slams ‘Absolutely Terrible’ Rangers information he’s seen

Rangers achieving any success whatsoever is “impossible” until their woeful away record is rectified by Philippe Clement, Kris Boyd has said.

Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland (8 January), Boyd argued that while the Gers have shown they can beat Celtic and other big teams in the big games, their away form is on a par with lowly Ross County’s, describing it as “absolutely terrible”.

Pointing out that the Light Blues have won just four of their last 15 away trips in the Premiership after Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Hibernian, Boyd wasn’t optimistic about their future prospects.

He said: “Rangers can win a game, against top opposition – we’ve seen that against Celtic – but it’s that consistency.

“Away from home it’s been absolutely terrible, there’s no getting away from it.

“Four wins in the last 15 away from home is not good enough for teams down the bottom of the table, never mind a huge club like Rangers.

“Ross County hadn’t won in over a year away from home – and they’ve the same points now as what Rangers have got this season, so that shows you how bad the away form has been.

“You can’t expect to win anything with that poor away record, it’s impossible.”

Philippe Clement under pressure to reverse Rangers away form

Recording a 3-0 victory over Celtic at Ibrox in their first match of the new year could have been the defining moment of Clement’s new-look Light Blues, but they’re already crashing back to earth.

Even a hat-trick for Hamza Igamane, the first in the Premiership since 2022, wasn’t enough to dispel the Gers’ kryptonite at Easter Road – that being seeing out games to claim points away from Ibrox.

No hangover from their watershed Celtic victory – the first of Clement’s tenure in six attempts – was evident during the opening half-hour in Edinburgh, racing into a 2-0 lead and looking likely to add to it.

However, twice being pegged back, first to 2-2 either side of half-time and then to 3-3 at the death, leaves Clement firmly back at square one when it comes to addressing his greatest undoing in Govan.

A trip to Dens Park awaits this Thursday and gives the Belgian the chance of an immediate reprieve on the road, as Boyd and every other Gers fan holds their collective breath in hope of a return to form.
