Kris Boyd drops ‘difficult’ Igamane verdict amid recent Rangers transfer links
Kris Boyd shared that it isn’t a surprise to see Hamza Igamane being linked with a Rangers exit despite it being “difficult” for him to initially find his way at Ibrox.
The striker has been in impressive form over the last few weeks and is likely one of the main reasons that Philippe Clement has kept his job.
Teams such as Everton have already been linked with a move for the 22-year-old striker as they look to bolster their attacking ranks.
Speaking on The Warm Up Podcast in quotes relayed by the Daily Record (7 January), Boyd shared why he isn’t surprised by the interest in the Morocco youth international.
“I don’t think there is a timeframe in terms of attracting interest – there’s no such thing,” he said.
“There’s a shortage of goal-scoring strikers, that’s a fact. If you have someone regularly scoring then they will attract interest because that’s what happens in football.
“Someone thinks they will make their team better and if they have more money they will spend it. Strikers make the difference.
“He came in as a project player and it was maybe difficult to put him in and ask him to learn his trade because then you’re under pressure. If he had been thrown in it could have set him back and introducing him gradually was probably a good move”.
Rangers cannot let Hamza Igamane depart Ibrox
At the moment, it feels like Igamane is the only bright spark within Clement’s ranks in Glasgow.
The 2024/25 season has certainly been one that fans will want to forget as they currently sit 13 points adrift of first-placed Celtic.
While they put on a good show in the Scottish League Cup and even the Europa League, their main goal, as with every season, is to challenge the Bhoys for the title and to be quite frank, they’re miles away from doing that.
Igamane has brought a new lease of life to the squad because, until his reintroduction into the team, fans found themselves becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of goals Cyriel Dessers was putting into the back of the net.

If the Gers allow Igamane to leave in January or perhaps even in the summer, it feels like they’d be digging their own grave and accepting that they will stay in the shadow of Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Which, in reality, is the last thing they want to be doing.
