Manchester United defender Jonny Evans would be a good signing for Rangers in the winter transfer window, John Hartson says.

The former Celtic striker would like to see the Gers get the centre-back in January, potentially on an 18-month contract.

Kris Boyd recently suggested the signing of Evans to help with current injury issues, with Leon Balogun, John Souttar and Neraysho Kasanwirjo all out.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (7 January), Hartson said: "He's 37 now, Evans. He's got over 100 caps for Northern Ireland. He's been a wonderful player. Leicester, of course, Man United for many years.

"I think now, in the January window, get him till the end of the season and maybe one more. Maybe on an 18-month contract. That would be a very good signing for Rangers."

Rangers need Jonny Evans transfer in January

At the moment, the Light Blues are dealing with an injury crisis, with Souttar, Balogun, Kasanwirjo and James Tavernier all unavailable for the trip to Dundee on 9 January.

The Bears are in desperate need of reinforcements in defence as they look to prioritise the addition of a centre-back in the coming weeks.

Clement has found some form as of late, with the Light Blues getting the better of Celtic at Ibrox on 2 January with a 3-0 victory.

The Gers have relied on Dujon Sterling and Robin Propper's partnership in recent weeks, but the English defender suffered a knock in the 3-3 draw with Hibernian.

It remains to be seen whether Rangers will be able to call upon Sterling at Dens Park on Thursday.

Leon King came on for the Light Blues as they drew to Hibs, with Clinton Nsiala also on the bench.

Clement will likely have to count on one of his youngsters in the upcoming fixtures if others don't return from injury soon, something that Evans could instantly resolve.
