Cyriel Dessers exit: Patrick Stewart to send Rangers transfer message
Rangers will need to sell the likes of Cyriel Dessers to sign new players in the winter transfer window, Stephen McGinn says.
The ex-midfielder believes Patrick Stewart will likely expect outgoings before pursuing January reinforcements.
Dessers has been linked with a move away from Ibrox already [The Rangers Review, 3 January], and his departure could help Philippe Clement strengthen his squad.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (7 January), McGinn said: “You’re guessing Patrick Stewart might come out and say there’s going to be a budget… What you expect when he’s passing it on upstairs would be there have to be outgoings for incoming.
“You would think they could recoup some money for Dessers and his career looks to be on the way out. If they could do that sort of business, it could really help Clement.”
Cyriel Dessers transfer sensible for Philippe Clement
Dessers has lost his place in the starting line-up permanently now, falling down the pecking order.
The Nigerian striker has found life difficult at the Glaswegian outfit after being handed multiple opportunities at the start of the season.
Hamza Igamane has overtaken the 30-year-old as the first-choice number nine at the Bears, with the Moroccan firing on all cylinders.
Rangers also have Danilo at their disposal, with the Brazilian centre-forward scoring crucial goals off the bench in recent weeks after an injury issue.

Clement finally seems to have found the formula to get the best out of the Gers’ attack, making Dessers dispensable in the winter window.
The 30-year-old has been a frustrating figure among the Ibrox faithful, and his departure won’t be contentious.
If the Bears desperately need funds to bolster their squad, it would make sense to get rid of someone like the Nigerian striker in the coming weeks.
