Cyriel Dessers exit: Loan-to-buy bid lined up for Rangers transfer
Cyriel Dessers could leave Rangers for Cagliari in January as the Italian side prepare a loan-to-buy bid, according to Centotrentuno.
The Italian publication (8 January) has reported that the Serie A outfit, currently hovering above the relegation places in their national top flight, are interested in arranging a deal for Dessers.
The 30-year-old striker has fallen out of favour with Philippe Clement and is finding his playing opportunities limited at Ibrox, with Hamza Igamane and Danilo among those higher in the pecking order.
Cagliari are said to prefer a loan deal in January with a purchase obligation in the summer, the latter of which will benefit the Gers as they continue to overhaul a fragmented squad.
Rangers could be about to bid farewell to Dessers
Despite all the criticism he has had to face, Dessers has been a predominantly good servant to Rangers.
The Nigerian international scored 22 goals last season, though many calls claim his total should have been considerably higher given the chances presented his way.
He has also chipped in with 12 so far in this campaign, though only half of these have come in Scottish Premiership fixtures and it appears Clement would prefer to find a way to move on separately.
Dessers probably needs a fresh chapter in his own career, too. He can be satisfied with his overall impact but will know as a competitive professional he could conversely have done better in blue.
Serie A would also be a terrific opportunity to showcase the ability he has, having turned 30 a month ago and unlikely to have many more chances like this on offer – he couldn’t really be blamed if he pushed for the move.
Cagliari are currently 17th in the Italian table, having won just four and lost 10 of their 19 league games thus far.
